Q. What are dental implants?
A titanium screw that is placed in the jaw bone that replaces the root and a crown is placed on top.
Q. What are the benefits of implants?
Q. Who is a candidate for dental implants?
Most patients are candidates for implants. Dr. Work can do a free implant screening to help determine if implants are right for you.
Q. I need a dental implant. What should I expect?
Did you know that in most cases implants can be done in one day with regular anesthetic? This means you can be awake for the appointment (if you would like) and often in and out in one hour! The first step of treatment is usually the placement of the "post" or actual implant, a temporary tooth is placed and then the area is left to heal for about 3 months. Once the implant has integrated and the area has healed a final restoration is place.
Q. How long does an implant last?
Dental implants can last a lifetime with proper care and maintenance. Although dental implants do not decay like natural teeth, they need to be cleaned and checked by your dental professional regularly.
Q. How much do Dental Implants cost?
In many cases, the cost of replacing a single missing tooth with an implant is the same as replacing the space with a 3-unit fixed bridge. The benefit to the implant is that it is longer lasting and easier to care for.
Q. Can Dental Implants fail?
Yes. Implants can be rejected, but not in the way organ (kidney or heart) transplants reject. We know dental implants are bio-compatible. Titanium implants are the most commonly used and there are no known allergic reactions. But, there is always a possibility of failure. Dr. Work will evaluate your case and determine your level of risk.
